    Description

This wonderful weaving combines the soft pastel colors found in Burntwater Navajo Indian textiles with the raised outline techniques developed in the Coal Mine Mesa region of the Navajo reservation in Arizona.  I purchased this rug from the original owners several years ago.  They lived in Phoenix from the 1980s to the early 1990s and bought a number of Navajo weavings during their stay; most purchases made while on trips that took them through the reservation.  They displayed their collection as wall art in various rooms and hallways of their homes, never in direct sunlight, and generally rotated several times each year.  Therefore, like all their collection, this Burntwater example is in very fine condition (like new) and without stains or flaws.  The raised outline method of weaving heightens the perception of the modified eye dazzler design and contains colors of an unusual adobe sunset palette that shades to blue/red rather than orange.  Individual colors include a light rosy brown, rose-beige, light clay, light green, and a

blue.  This interpretation of the classic Southwest color scheme is highly unusual and makes the weaving a very fine accompaniment to modern homes.  Besides the delightful colors, this is a finely woven textile, at 26-28 wefts per inch.  All wool warps and wefts.  It measures approximately 48" long and 24" wide.  My offering price is well below the normal retail tag of 00-1500 generally assigned to Burntwater raised outline weavings of this size and condition.
