This stunning chainmail chaplet headdress is hand made using 18 gauge 1/4 inch diameter Jeweler's brass rings with gold-plated chain, brass and glass beads, and iridescent lead crystals. Look equally good on all hair lengths. These photos don't do this piece justice... it really shines!     I use saw-cut rings, which are best for applications where you want to be very particular about the finished appearance of each ring, such as with fine jewelry. A saw cut ring is made by an industrial machine that cuts a coil with a rotary saw blade. Every saw cut ring I use is deburred, polished and cleaned. I use Jewelers Brass (alloy C226) rings for my chainmail jewelry. It looks very similar to yellow gold when its not tarnished. The strength and corrosion properties are similar to yellow brass – jeweler’s brass is about 8% stronger and costs a bit more. Brass tarnishes but can be cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner or any commercially available brass cleaner - like Brasso. Most brass wire you will find is soft, but these brass rings are 1/2 hard temper which combines strength with workability.
