Wonderful early rug with possible "storm pattern" influence in design with corner mountain or clouds and possible navajo Nation central design. Unique border consistent with early 20th Century transitional period where weavers were changing from making blankets to rugs. Founded on Fifty Year Family Business
Buena Vista Trading Post owner Rob Wood calls upon his family's fifty years of experience as American Indian art dealers. Rob's father, Len Wood, opened his first gallery in Laguna Beach, California in 1969. Len grew the business in Laguna, moving into a number of different buildings in town before settling in for decades neighboring the Laguna Beach Museum of Art. It was there where Rob and his brothers joined the family business. "Dad taught us so much," Rob recalls. "Perhaps one of the greatest lessons is that which is made by hand tells the truth about the time, place and maker of the piece. When holding an artifact, we are holding a time capsule that will transport us back to a different time and place."
Today, Rob and his brothers each have their own galleries, but also continue to work hand-in-hand meeting the needs of their clientele. He explains, "as collectors, every artifact is an opportunity to dig deeper into history, an opportunity to better understand a culture so rich in tradition, art, and skill. As dealers, it is our pleasure to share all that we have learned, to search for those items that may have special interests to you, our clients and partners in this incredible journey."
