    Description

    Original Pre-WWI German Army ammo pouch M.1874 transitional pouch which is altered by the arsenal resewing the loops on the rear of the pouch.  This was done after the M.1887 pouch was adopted for the 71/84 Mauser, for either the 71/84 or 1871 Mauser rifles.  These rifles were still used by the Landwehr (Home Guard) during WWI.  This pouch is in nice condition with all straps.  Marked I.R.88. for Infantry Regiment No. 88 of Nassau (Mainz and Hanau).  Brown leather.  Two pouches were worn by every soldier.
    Included in the pictures are drawings of the German pouches from Paul Pietsch's book on German equipment.  The pouch holds 20 rounds of 11mm ammo and has the leather insert for the cartridges. Very good condition overall.  A nice accessory to go along with a 71 or 71/84 Mauser. A scarce pouch.
