  • Condition: Good-Very Good overall antique cond: Offered is this really wonderful, beautiful & nearly unblemished, early 20th c Native American Navajo, geo-abstract, hand-dyed & hand woven, sm tribal 'Eye Dazzler,' 7-banded wool mat. It measures 23 ½" in height x 31 ¼" in length & has tightly woven wool fibers & tied wool cord corners. The design is characteristic of the well-known Navajo 'Eye Dazzler' early 20th c wool rugs, w/their jagged, interlocking color shapes, w/triangles, diamonds & bands, as seen here. The expression clearly comes from the fact that the interacting & interlocking colors, as a result of the active, jagged, saw-tooth like edges of the forms, creates kineticism & color fluctuation, resulting in a very active visual field & pulsating, rhythmic color display. No edge is static except for 2 edges in the entire mat, those being the R & L sepia brown edges of the mat. There's only 2 sm, slight stains that are barely noticeable on 1 side. Orig. Authentic. Very, very beautiful.

    DESCRIPTION:
Offered for your review and consideration is this really wonderful, beautiful and nearly unblemished,
    early 20th century
    Native American
    Navajo,
geo-abstract, hand-dyed and hand woven, small tribal
    'Eye Dazzler,'
    seven-banded wool mat. It measures
    23 ½" in height x 31 ¼"
in length and has tightly woven wool fibers and tied wool cord corners. The design is characteristic of the well-known
    Navajo
    'Eye Dazzler'
    early 20th century
wool rugs, with their jagged, interlocking color shapes, in the form of triangles, diamonds and repeating veritical or horizontal bands, as seen here with this mat. The expression
    'Eye Dazzler'
clearly comes from the fact that the interacting and interlocking colors, as a result of the active, jagged, saw-tooth like,
    triangular
edges of the forms, create kineticism and real tonal color fluctuation, resulting in a very active visual field and pulsating, rhythmic chromatic, visual experience. No edge is static except for two edges in the entire mat, those being the right and left sepia brown edges on each side of the mat. There's only two small, slight stains that are barely noticeable on one side of the wool mat. No attempt has been made to reduce or to remove them, since they are very minor and occur on only one side of the mat. The rug hasn't been rinsed or cleaned. It remains as it was found in the estate where it was removed from. There are no associated smells and no surface soiling or any extemporaneous material spoiling the pristine wool fibers. The colors as well, remain nearly saturated and largely undiminished by sunlight. It may not be big but it is early and it is beautifully made. From
    Native American
    Navajo
tribal weavers, its unmitigated beauty is nearly uncontested in the world of textile art and indigenous hand-woven rugs and mats.
